Phyllis Griffiths

Phyllis Griffiths, 77, of Brevard, passed away on Tuesday, September 24, 2019. A native of Asheville, NC, she was the daughter of Pauline Elizabeth Case Cassell and the late Thern Monroe Cassell.

The daughter of a career serviceman, she lived in several places around the country, notably Ames, Iowa, where she learned to ice-skate, which became a great joy to her. Working with children also became a great part of her life.  A member of Cathey’s Creek Baptist Church, she worked with children both in daycare and at church as a Sunday School teacher and also as an AWANA leader.

She and her husband, David Griffiths recently celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary, as they were married on September 16, 1961. She was an avid reader and loved to research genealogy.

Her survivors include her loving husband, David; their children: Dianne Bishop (Robert) of Cedar Mountain, Suzi Barnett (David “Spike”), of Tampa, FL, and Brian Griffiths of Charlotte, NC; 10 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews and her church family.

A memorial service for Phyllis Griffiths will be held at 12:00 noon, on Wednesday, October 9, 2019 at Cathey’s Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Tony Lambert and Rev. Allen Aiken officiating. The family will receive friends from 11:00 – 12:00, one hour prior to the service. The family asks that all who come to the service wear the color blue to honor Phyllis.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Broyhill Children’s Home, 111 Sneed Dr,, Clyde, NC 28721.
