Pick Powell

Pick Allen Powell, 91, of Rosman, passed away on April 13, 2021. A Transylvania County native, he was the son of the late Fields and Hattie Whitmire Powell. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by his brothers Keith, Jerry, Donald and Walter.

A United States Army Veteran, he enjoyed hunting and fishing and tending to his garden. He also enjoyed talking to folks, and never met a stranger. He loved his home and sitting on his back porch enjoying the scenery that surrounded him and driving around his community every day.

But his greatest love was his family and the closeness that he enjoyed. His loving survivors include his wife of 63 years, Irene, whom he met and married while stationed in Germany; their daughter Sandra Raines and husband Steven of Rosman; his brothers and sisters: Harry Powell and his wife Carolyn, Gerald Powell and his wife Mary, Jimmy Powell, Avarie Gillespie and Johnny Stewart Powell; and numerous nieces and nephews that helped complete his large, tight-knit family.

Funeral services for Pick Powell will be held at 2:45 PM on Saturday, April 17, 2021 in the chapel of Moore-Blanchard Funerals & Cremations. Interment will follow at Blue Ridge Gardens of Memory in Pisgah Forest. The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm until time for the service.
