Rachel Hamlin Freeman, 90, passed away on September 26, 2012 at Transylvania Regional Hospital.



Rachel was devout Christian and an active, lifelong member of the Brevard First Baptist Church, where she served on the church history committee and as a Sunday school teacher.  She was a graduate of Brevard High School, and attended Fruitland Bible Institute and Brevard College.  Rachel was a happy, fun loving person who loved life and her family.  She was a gardener, farmer, animal lover, business woman, and prankster.  Rachel regularly attended and participated in programs at the Silvermont Opportunity Center, which enriched her life and gave her great joy.  Rachel enjoyed her final meal at the Huddle House in Brevard, where she loved the sweet potato fries and the excellent service of her favorite waitress, Jenny.



Rachel is preceded in death by  her parents, Lewis Hamlin and Mae Pickelsimer Hamlin, her brothers Lewis and Perry Hamlin, and her husband, Crawford W. Freeman.



She is survived by her daughter, Mae Clayton and husband, Larry, and her son, David Freeman.  She is also survived by her grandchildren, Jeremy Clayton, Amy Freeman Marquez, and Joshua Freeman, as well as her six great grandchildren, Avett, Isabelle, Analeigh, Adlai, Hazel and Alyssa.



Funeral Services will be held at 3:00pm at the First Baptist Church of Brevard on Sunday, September 30, 2012  with the Rev. Tommy Crocker officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00pm until 2:45pm also at the church.



Donations in memory of Rachel should be sent to The Silvermont Opportunity Center, Lunch Plus Program, 364 East Main Street, Brevard, NC.
