Brevard - Ramona Elois Hughes, 81, passed away at her residence after a courageous fight with breast cancer on Friday, April 1, 2011. Her family surrounded her singing and reading scripture as she went rising and shining into the glory of His presence. There will be a Celebration of Life on April 2, 2011, at 2:30 PM, at Brevard Community Church Brevard, NC. with Rev. Todd Alewine officiating. All are welcome to attend.

Ramona was born in Mobile, Alabama, October 23, 1929 to the late John Fletcher Thomas and Bessie Roney Thomas. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 54 years, Rev. Thomas E. Hughes, one brother, John Andrew Thomas and two sisters, Margie T. Howard and Mary Earlene Tarlton. As well as being a Pastors wife, she was a real estate broker in Brevard for over 20 years, a creative artist and she and her husband Tom were wonderful parents to their own children and many others.

She is survived by four daughters, Mary H. Linville and husband John, Virginia Lynn Hughes and husband Greg McDonald, Margie T. Hughes and Rebecca H. Watkins, all of Brevard, one brother, Clarence E. Thomas, 14 grandchildren, Beth Goins, Heather Compton, Nathanael Hughes, Caleb Weingartz, Jennifer Serres, Joshua Hughes, Emily Delgado, Jonlyn Linville, Aaron Weingartz, David Watkins, JT Linville, Claire Watkins, Alisha Alexander and Korah McDonald, and 12 great grandchildren, Jacob, Andrew, Garrett, Mia, Gabriel, Roman, Ellie, Micah, Will, Miles, Haden, Xavier and a new one will arrive in November.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to J. L. Ministries, c/o Ramona Hughes Memorial Garden Fund, P.O. Box 1931, Brevard, NC 28712. This garden will be planted next to the Tom Hughes Memorial Chapel in honor of their many years of sharing the Gospel of Christ with numerous people.
