Mills River, North Carolina

Ray "Pop" Boland, 91, passed away on Saturday, March 9, 2013at Brian Center of Hendersonville, NC. He was preceded in death by his wife; Olga Aruck Boland who he married in Paris, France during WWII and his second wife; the late Mary Elizabeth Boland.

He was born in Wewoka, OK to the late Harvey and Rose Talley Boland. He served his country in the US Army during WWII. He was an Honorary Admiral in the navy helping buy, bring home and restore the USS North Carolina Battleship.

He was a member of Mills River Seventh Day Adventist Church, a Mason at Liberty Lodge #123, Waterbury, Conn., and American Legion Auxiliary. He was a former member of the CA Board of Realtors, Shriners, Elks, and AASR.

Pop was "Father of the Year" in 2009; he actively volunteered with the Salvation Army, American Red Cross and the Etowah Riding Club.

He is survived by one son; Robert Ray Boland and his wife Nancy of Centerville, Mass., one daughter; Wendy Boland Cantrell and her husband Jamie of Mills River, NC, one sister; Maryetta Lois Harvey of Jal, New Mexico, two grandchildren; Denver A. and James Bradley Cantrell and numerous nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Sunday, March 24, 2013, at 1:00 PM at Mills River Seventh Day Adventist Church.
