Richard Bischert

Pisgah Forest, North Carolina

Richard J. Bischert Sr. born October 10th, 1940 passed away on February 19th, 2011, in North Carolina after a long fight with pancreatic cancer.

"Dick" as he was affectionately known, was born and raised in the small rural town of Liberty, NY. He is preceded in death by his mother Irene, his father Francis, and his older brother John.

Dick served the state of New York in the department of corrections as an officer and later in his career as executive director of AFSCME Council 82.

Dick is survived by his loving wife Carol, one son; Richard Bischert, Jr and wife, Ginny, of Delaware, Ohio, two daughters; Kimberly Bischert of Grahamsville, NY and JoAnne Bitjeman of Monticello, NY, two step-daughters; Kirsten Brancazio and husband, Jared, of Ft. Myers, FL, and Karlene Kurowski of Greenport, NY, two sisters; Marie and Mary Ann, five grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Dick was a loving husband, father and grandfather cherished by all whose lives he touched. Often he would speak of how much joy his family brought to his life. His life is remembered by those he helped, whether a friend who needed a tool, a neighbor with a home project, or a complete stranger who broke down along the side of the road.

A memorial service will be held 2:00 PM, Monday, February 21, 2011 at Moore Funeral Home. The family will host a reception immediately following the service at their home.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that a donation be made to Lustgarten.org, or Lustgarten Foundation, 1111 Stewart Ave., Bethpage, NY 11714, a premier pancreatic cancer research organization.
