Richard Hooper

Richard Darrell Hooper, 78, of Pisgah Forest, passed away on Monday, February 15, 2016. Originally from Cashiers, he was the son of the late John Will and Zona Cloer Hooper. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by his wife, Karen G. Hooper.

Darrell was the owner of Faith Farm in Pisgah Forest and started with Nationwide Insurance in 1970 as an agent owner and independent contractor. Over the years he has also served the Transylvania County chapter of Gideons International, the Dunn's Rock Masonic Lodge, was a past-president of the Brevard Jaycees, was a life member of the Rocky Mountain Elk Association, he served as a North Carolina Magistrate for 19 years and his family was "Farm Family of the Year in 1989". He was an avid father, golfer, deer hunter and fisherman.

He is survived by his children: Richie Hooper and wife Mindi, T.J. Hooper and wife Kelly, and Alison Batson and husband Ty; grandchildren Shane Hooper, Cannon Hooper, Carver Hooper, Dustin Batson, Cole Batson, Braulin Hooper and Kaelyn Hooper; sisters Hilda Siniard and husband Tink, Dottie Hutchins and husband James, and Joyce Galloway; ex-wife and friend Grethel Marcum Hooper; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services for Darrell Hooper will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Thursday, February 18, 2016 at First Baptist Church with Rev. Randy Barton officiating. Interment will follow at Blue Ridge Gardens of Memory in Pisgah Forest. The family will receive friends from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. prior to the service.
