Richard Loftis

September 28, 1946 — January 19, 2018

Brevard, North Carolina

Brevard native, Richard Edward Loftis, 71, recently passed away at his home in Pisgah Forest.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Nell Cairnes Loftis and Richard Marshall Loftis, and sister-in-law, Patricia Creasman Loftis.

Surviving are his brother, Charles Anthony (Tony) Loftis; sister, Ann Wilkinson (Barry); step -daughter, Sarah Carpenter; grandson, Rowan; nieces Marsha (Ryan) King; Leanne (Jared) Anderson; and great nephew, Triston King.

He proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corp and was a Vietnam veteran. After his honorable release from service, he pursued several entrepreneurial ventures. He later went on to become manager of the Brevard ABC store, a position which he held for many years. He also served as a Reserve Deputy for the Transylvania County Office of the Sheriff. He was involved in the political arena and served as County Commissioner from 1976 - 1980. He was a proud member of the Transylvania County VFW.

He was an enthusiastic golfer and member of the Southeastern Golf Association. Richard loved horses and was involved in equine events. He had recently discovered a passion for dancing, both shag and ballroom.Richard Edward Loftis.

The family of Richard Edward Loftis wishes to thank everyone for the outpouring of love and support given us during this difficult time.

The memorial service will be a private family gathering.

Any memorial donations you may wish to make can be made to the VFW - 50 Veterans Circle, Brevard, NC 28712 - or, Hope Remains Ranch, 1771 John Dodd Rd, Wellford, SC 29385.

Most important to him were his family, his friends, his land, and Thursday's "chicken leg day" at Pisgah Fish Camp.
