Richard James "Dick" Nash, 79, of Brevard, NC, was welcomed "home" on Friday, October 2, 2009. Dick
battled several debilitating illnesses with endless optimism. He boldly proclaimed his attitude toward
life as coming from his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He was born August 8, 1930, in Royal Oak, MI. He was one of four sons of the late Ernest and Edna Nash.
Dick is survived by his devoted wife of 58 years, Jayne Kerr Nash. Other survivors include his three
children, Richard James Nash, Jr. and wife, Connie of Okeechobee, FL, Kerin Nash Plank and husband,
David of Greensboro, NC, and Margaret Anne Nash of Valle Crucis, NC; five grandchildren, Richard
James Nash, III, Christopher and Lauren Plank, and Nicholas and Katherine Schmidt; and two great-
grandchildren, McKenzie and Justin Nash. He is also survived by a special daughter and son, Debbee
and John Gibson and special grandchildren, Kelsie and Joshua.
In 1946, Dick enlisted in the U.S. Army 11th Airborne, following his brother's footsteps as a
paratrooper. After marrying his lovely bride in 1951, he received a degree from Louisiana State
University in banking and worked his way up from teller to bank president. He was president of the
Citizens Bank of Frostproof and the Citizens Bank of Pasco, in Zephyrhills, FL. After 25 years in
banking, Dick then retired from a second career as Area Director of the U.S. Small Business
Administration, Disaster Assistance in 1995. Dick had a post-retirement career as a broker for Top of
the Falls Realty.
Dick was Chairman of the Board of Directors for Polk Community College in Winter Haven, FL, as
well as a member of the Board of Trustees for Lake Wales Hospital in Lake Wales, FL. He was a
member of the American Legion and received his 55 year pin as a Master Mason of Zephyr Lodge
Number 198 of Zephyrhills, FL. Dick was a member of Promise Keepers, past President of Frostproof
Rotary Club and enjoyed his travels as a licensed private pilot.
A memorial service celebrating the life of Richard Nash will be held at Moore Funeral Home, 100 N.
Country Club Rd., Brevard, NC, Saturday, October 10, at 4:00 PM, with the Rev. Bob Stacy officiating.
