Robert Hering

Robert Carl Hering, 85, of Penrose, passed away on Friday, March 9, 2018 at Memorial Mission Hospital in Asheville. A native of Floral Park, NY, he was the son of the late Carl Fredrick and Elsie Kearn Hering. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Dorothy Hering.

A 33 year retired veteran of the US Navy, he achieved the rank of Chief Petty Officer. He loved to help his people in need and was especially generous with his friends and family. While he enjoyed camping and fishing and being a general "Mr. Fix-it", he loved to gamble and share his good fortune.

His survivors include children: Jerry Valentine (Kim) of Aurora, CO, Renee Egert of Calverton, NY, Robert Hering (Carolyn) of Calverton, NY, and Wendy Waldron (Paul) of Mastic, NY; grandchildren Brandon, Tyler, Kyle, Chelsea, David, Dan, Connie, John, Sheri, Tammy and Kimberly; great-grandchildren Frankie, Ellie, Lily, Alana, Breanna, Justin and Adelyn; and his brother, Fred Hering of Anderson, SC.

A Memorial Service will be held at 6:00 PM on Tuesday, March 13, 2018 in the Chapel of Moore-Blanchard Funerals & Cremations with Pastor Mary Shore officiating and military rites provided by the US Navy and The Transylvania County Honor Guard.
