Robert Wilkerson

Robert Irvin "Bob" Wilkerson Jr., 93, of Brevard, NC passed away September 23, 2017. A native of Roanoke, VA, he was the son of Robert I. Wilkerson Sr. and Margaret Garrett Wilkerson.

He grew up in Bristol and Bluefield, VA and served in the 13th Armored Division during World War II. He earned a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Virginia Tech and worked as an engineer for Fieldcrest Mills in Eden, North Carolina.

Mr. Wilkerson was preceded in death by his wife Virginia Adeline "Addie" Wilkerson of 64 years. He is survived by his daughter Mary Arnaudin and husband Steven of Brevard, NC; son Robert I. Wilkerson III and wife Vanessa of Vidalia, GA.; grandchildren: Edwin Arnaudin of Asheville, NC; Elin Arnaudin of Waimate, New Zealand; Seth Wilkerson of Savannah, GA.; Caitlin Whitaker and husband Zack and their children Silas and Edie Rae of Vidalia, GA.

Bob was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, friend and neighbor known for his passion for camping, genealogy, history, gardening and Virginia Tech athletics. During his over 50 years in Eden he was an active member and leader at Leaksville United Methodist Church, serving as Chair of the Board of Trustees and on the Administrative Board. He was a Scout Master, participated on the Board of Review, and was awarded the Scouts' Order of the Arrow and Cross and Flame Award. He was also active in the Sons of the American Revolution. Upon moving to Brevard in 2012, he quickly made friends and especially enjoyed his Monday mornings with the Methodist Men's Bible Study and College Walk's socials including Cappuccino Hour, Hubble group, Brew Crew, Happy Hour, Saturday Coffee and "Doc Martin" movie nights.

A Memorial Service for Mr. Wilkerson will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 27, 2017 at Brevard First United Methodist Church with Rev. Mike Holder and Rev. Lauren Sims-Salata officiating. The family will receive friends in the church's gathering space at 10:15 a.m. and move to the sanctuary for service. A graveside service will be held in October at Highland Burial Park in Danville, Virginia.
