Roy L. Edwards, Jr.

Brevard, NC - Roy L. Edwards, Jr., died Wednesday, May 6, 2009, peacefully at his home in Connestee Falls, Brevard, NC. He was the beloved husband of Beth Edwards.
He was the son of the late Roy L. Edwards and Sara Bickley Edwards of Birmingham, Alabama.
Roy was a graduate of Auburn University, Auburn, Alabama with a degree in Electrical Engineering. He was a fraternity member of Alpha Tau Omega and an honorary member of the Eta Kappa Nu Association. He also furthered his education in engineering at John Hopkins, Baltimore, MD and was a member of the State of Maryland Professional Engineers. His career spanned a period of 34 years with A.A.I. Corps on Cockeysville, MD.
Roy was also a veteran of WW II, serving in the Army Air Corp, 13th Air Force, and attained the rank of 1st Lieutenant serving in the Pacific as a navigator/bombardier on B-25's. His group was awarded Unit Citations for their successful missions over Borneo, plus several Bronze clusters.
Over his lifetime, he was an Eagle Scout, and avid skier, and loved to read, hike, fish, soar, and with his wife, traveled extensively. He met his wife, Beth, at Mount Tremblant, Que. Ski resort.
Surviving are his wife of over 37 years; sister, Sara Kenan (George); niece, Jane Olausen (Jim), nephew, Bob Kenan (fiance Liz), great niece, Dr. Caroline Thomas (Eric); great nephew, Dan Olausen (fiance Erica); great-great niece, Sara Thomas.
The memorial service will take place on Friday, May 15, 2009 at 10 am at Symmes Chapel (Pretty Place, SC ) with Father Carl DelGiudice officiating. Full Military Rites will be conducted by the Honor Guard for Veterans of Transylvania County.
There will be a reception immediately following the service at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
Memorials may be made to TRH Hospice, The American Cancer Society, or to Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
