Brevard ' Ruby Elizabeth Waterman 91, died Saturday, June 27, 2009 at Tores Home #2.
She was born June 9, 1918 in Greenwood, IN to the late John "Rube" Smart and Opal Hendricks Smart. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Roy Edgar Waterman who died in 1976, and her brothers, Jack Smart and Samuel Smart.
Ruby worked for RCA during WWII, returning there in 1965 and retiring in 1981. During this time she also worked various jobs - sold Watkins products, waitressed, prepared Polio vaccines and many other small jobs.
After her retirement, she volunteered for many years with Sharing Place in Indianapolis. In 2002, she left her home of 37 years in New Palestine, IN, which her husband built, and moved to College Walk. She was known for her beautiful smile.
Surviving are her children, Robert Waterman and wife Wandie of New Palestine, IN, and Brenda Whitcomb and husband James A. Whitcomb of Brevard; sister, Sara Smart Ruschhaupt of New Palestine, IN; grandchildren, Rob Waterman and wife Jennifer, Melissa Gadis and husband Steve, Amy Phillips and husband Doug, Kari Whitcomb and David Whitcomb; 8 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at Zion Lutheran Church in New Palestine, IN. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Zion Lutheran Church, New Palestine, IN, to TRH Hospice of Brevard, NC, or to one's favorite charity.
