Ruth Houck Rebman 1925-2009

Ruth Houck Rebman, 84, of Sapphire, NC, died July, 26, 2009, at Highlands-Cashiers Hospital. She was resident at the Fidelia Eckerd Living Center located at the hospital. She was a victim of Alzheimer's disease.

Mrs. Rebman, born in Cleveland, Ohio, was the daughter of the late Howard J. Houck and Elsie Bourziel Houck. In 1946, she married Jack Rebman, who survives her. They had three sons, Stephen, David, and Daniel. David is deceased while the other two sons survive. The Rebman's only grandchild, Nicholas, is the son of Daniel. They reside in Houston, TX. Stephen lives in Raleigh, NC. During their 63 years of marriage Ruth and Jack made home in several cities; Erie, PA, Los Angeles, CA, Columbus, OH, Cary, NC, and Sapphire, NC.

After high school, she attended Dyke Business School in Cleveland, OH and worked as a secretary in industry for several years. Mrs. Rebman loved music and was particularly accomplished on the piano. Also, she sang in a number of vocal groups and played the baritone in her school marching band. She served many years in women's groups such as the Homemakers of NC and the Reseda Jr. Women's Club in CA. She was an arts and craft enthusiast, especially in embroidery.
