Ruth McCracken Wells



Brevard - Ruth McCracken Wells, 79, passed away on February 20, 2008 at her residence.

A native of Buncombe County, she was the daughter of the late Dr. Cicero McAfee McCracken and Johnnie Ruth Turner McCracken Weatherly and was the wife of the late Dr. Marius H. Wells.

She was a graduate of Brevard College and the Medical College of South Carolina and Roper Hospital Nursing School. She was also a graduate of the University of Alabama at Birmingham Nurse Anesthetist program. Mrs. Wells was a member of the Board of Directors of the Pisgah Girl Scout Council, and she worked with the North Carolina Chapter of the American Assoc. of Diabetes. She was a past president of the Transylvania Country Democratic Women, she served as president of KOALA, served as Chairman and Secretary of the Transylvania County Board of Elections. Mrs. Wells was a long time member of the Mathatasion Book Club and was an active and faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Brevard.

She is survived by her children, Kathryn Wilson and husband Michael of Apex, Jane Cregger and husband Peter of Winterville, Susan Ingraham and husband Michael of Spartanburg, SC, Marian Martin and husband David of Richmond, VA, Marius Wells, Jr. and wife Melissa of Brevard; grandchildren, James, Marian and Julie Cregger, Christopher, David and Patrick Ingraham, Brice, Turner, and Weston Martin, Johnathan and Jordan Wells; sister, Lura Roberts of Phoenix, AZ; brother, Julian McCracken of Fairview.

She was beloved by not just her children and grandchildren, but by her nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The memorial service will be held at 11:00 am Saturday at the First Baptist Church of Brevard with Revs. Ray Talley, Harold Killian, and Tommy Crocker officiating. Burial will be in Ashelawn Memorial Gardens, Asheville, NC.

The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the church parlor.
