Samuel Barnett

Samuel Richard Barnett 79, passed away on Tuesday Oct 20,2020. His parents were Samuel Barnett and Mary Holden Mackey. He lived most of his life in Transylvania County. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife of 43 years, Joanne Allison Barnett and his brother Eddie Barnett.

Richard served in the US Army and did a tour in Vietnam where he was awarded the Bronze Star for bravery. He worked at Liberty Life Insurance for many years.

He is survived by one son, Rick Barnett (Christy) of Alpharetta, GA; stepdaughters Anita Cagle (Larry) and Rhonda Holcombe (Roger), and one stepson Gene McCrary (Barbara), all of Brevard; eight grandchildren Laurin Barnett of Charleston SC, Rhett Barnett and Chapman Barnett of Alpharetta GA,  Tonya Epps (Daniel)of Townville, SC Jason Cagle (Cynthia) of Lake Toxaway, Allison McCosh (Sandy) of Brevard, Jesse McCrary (Jessica) of Pisgah Forest and Amy Lunsford (Kyle) of Brevard; Eight great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. He also had one niece and one nephew.

A private memorial service will be held at the State Veterans Cemetery in Black Mountain.
