Samuel Geek Glen

Samuel Geek Glen, 88, of College Walk in Brevard, passed away January 25, 2010.
He was a son of the late Harry and Anna Geek of Philadelphia, PA. , and was a member of First Baptist Church of Brevard and also attended Brevard Community Church and was a volunteer with the M.S. Society. He is survived by his loving wife, Janis Galley Glen, two sons, David Geek and Allan Hale, two daughters, Beth Magnin and Nancy Piland and their mother Carolyn Geek, a brother, Duke Geek, nine grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Mr. Glen served in the U.S. Navy and was a veteran of World War II. He was a graduate of Brevard College and received his BA from UNC in Chapel Hill and then taught high school in Etowah, NC for two years before returning to Chapel Hill to complete his Masters degree. Sam was an educator, administrator, and a developer of the comprehensive North Carolina Community College System. He worked for the Dept. of Education (HEW) in Charlottesville, VA, Washington D.C., and Atlanta, GA.
His lifelong love of gardening always provided his family, neighbors, and friends with a bountiful harvest. His achievement as a Master Gardener was a true testimony to his vast knowledge and experience with plants.
Memorial services will be held 2:30 PM, Saturday, February 20, 2010 in the Chapel of Moore Funeral Home with Rev. Todd Alewine officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
