Brevard - Selma Morgan Hunter, 100, of Brevard, died August 10, 2012. She was the daughter of the late Porter and Ellen (Justus) Morgan. Besides her parents, Selma was preceded in death by her husband, James Lee Hunter; two brothers, Edwin A. Morgan, and Gaston S. Morgan; two sisters, Elsie Morgan McCall, and Frances Morgan Dickson; a grandson, Stephen Mark Hunter; a granddaughter, Kathy Hunter Rivera; and two daughters-in-law, Sybil Gregory Hunter and Maxie Flowers Hunter.

Mrs. Hunter is survived by a son, Stephen Morgan Hunter, and wife, Donna, of Hendersonville; daughter, Sara Kellar and husband, Robert, of Brevard; daughter, Sue Ellen Wearn and husband, Robert, of Newcastle, WA; and a stepson, James Lee Hunter Jr., and wife, Pat, of Lena, Mississippi. She is also survived by six grandchildren: Martha Taylor (Tom), of Brevard; Lee Kellar, St Thomas, VI; Morgan Hunter (Shawn), Chicago; Clay Hunter (Kay) Vicksburg, MS; Tim Hunter, Vicksburg, MS; Shannon Oden (George), Vicksburg, MS; as well as eleven great-grandchildren: Don Taylor; Amelia, Sara, and Elijah Kellar; Fiona Puckett; Tori, Cody, and Alison Shiers; Nicholas Rivera; Regan Hunter; and Lori Ann Thompson. A number of nieces, nephews, and cousins also remain to cherish her memory.

Mrs. Hunter, a native of Transylvania County, graduated from Rosman High School and attended what is now Western Carolina University. She was a devoted wife, mother, and homemaker; a long-time member of Brevard-Davidson River Presbyterian Church; and an enthusiastic 4-H Leader for the children in the Lamb's Creek community. An avid gardener and flower grower, she enjoyed her garden club and the Extension Homemaker's groups here and in Merritt Island, Florida, where she lived for part of the year.

In retirement, Selma and her husband traveled widely, and she was always keenly interested in people, whether in this country or in far away places. When poor health kept her confined to her home in Deerlake and, more recently in The Oaks, she looked forward to visits from her family and friends, the folks who delivered Meals on Wheels, and the loving care of Laura Woods and the other care givers at The Oaks and Four Seasons Hospice.

A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, August 17, at 1:00 p.m. at Brevard-Davidson River Presbyterian Church, 249 East Main Street, Brevard, NC. Burial will be private at Blue Ridge Gardens of Memory.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Brevard-Davidson River Presbyterian Church, 249 East Main Street, Brevard, NC 28712, or to the Mt. Moriah Calvert Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 890 Calvert Rd., Brevard, NC 28712.
