Shipman Britton Whitmire
Brevard - Shipman Britton Whitmire, age 80, went home to be with his Lord on Sunday, May 30, 2010. He was a resident at The Brian Center for the past 2 ' years. Shipman was a life long resident of Transylvania County, a farmer and dairy farmer for 18 years, and retired from the American Thread Plant after 27 years.
The son of the late Glad W. and Mattie H. Whitmire, he was also preceded in death by three sisters, Margie McCormick, Mildred F. Whitmire, Vera L. Burrell; one brother, Marvin W. Whitmire. He is survived by one nephew, Merle M. McCormick and wife Rosera; two nieces, Kay W. Henninger and husband Tom, and Lynne B. Breedlove and husband Billy; five great nephews, three great nieces, and many great-great nieces and nephews.
Shipman was a kind, gentle, loving man, and always a gentleman. He was always appreciative of what people did for him, and was loved by all who knew him. His family and friends were always a very special part of his life. Shipman has left a very memorable and loving legacy for his nieces, nephews, and all those in their families who lovingly knew him as "Shippy".
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, June 4, 2010 at 3pm in the Moore Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Tommy Owen and Kadez Wilde officiating. Burial will follow immediately after the service at Connestee Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions made be made to the Baptist Children's Home of NC, 701 Watson Circle, Thomasville, NC 27360, or to Transylvania Regional Hospital, 260 Hospital Drive, Brevard, NC 28712.
