Sidney James Hartsfield, 93, went home to be with the Lord on September 23, 2011 in Brevard.

He was a retired minister of the Pentacostal Holiness Church of the Florida Conference and also a retired Public School Teacher.

Sid was a native of Tallahassee, FL. He held an AA Degree from Franklin Springs Institute in Franklin Springs, GA, a BSED Degree from Piedmont College in Demorest, GA, and a MA Degree in School Administration from Memphis State University in Memphis, TN. He was the head of Melrose Guidance Center in Memphis.

Sid and his wife lived and taught in the Memphis City School Systems until they retired. They lived in Tallahassee, FL before moving to Balsam Grove, NC.

Sid was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Mary Kathryn; his parents, Oscar Vanbrundt and Annie Mae Alcorn Hartsfield; a sister, Louise Parramore Gibbs; and a brother, O. Winfred Hartsfield.

He is survived by a sister in law; Emogene Lett Hartsfield; a daughter, Doris Hartsfield Adams; a son, Jim Hartsfield II, two granddaughters, Cecelia R. Goulet and Christina Adams Krauss; two nephews, Andrew Parramore and Fred Hartsfield; a niece, Gloria Hartsfield Irvin; three great grandsons and several great nieces and great nephews.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, October 1, 2011 at Shoal Creek Baptist Church at 11am with the Rev. James McCall officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Shoal Creek Baptist Church, PO Box 289, Balsam Grove, NC 28708.
