Stephen Fitzgerald

Stephen Anthony Fitzgerald, 87, of Brevard, passed away on Thursday, November 4, 2021 at the Charles George V.A. Medical Center in Asheville.

A native of Brooklyn, NY, he was the son of the late Robert Francis and Margaret Cuddeback Fitzgerald. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Lorraine, and their son Patrick K. Fitzgerald.

A retired Captain in the United States Marine Corps, he served three tours of duty in Viet-nam while being stationed in Rota, Spain; Pearl City, HI; Alexandria, VA; and Camp Lejeune, NC.

After retirement from the Marine Corps, he joined the Volunteer Fire Department in Piney Green, NC. After moving to Brevard he became active at Sacred Heart Catholic Church and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed working with both the Boy Scouts and the Girl Scouts along with his wife, Lorraine.

His greatest joys come from being “Pepere” or Grandfather to his four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

His survivors include his children, Brian Fitzgerald and Sheilah Fitzgerald; grandchildren: Danielle, Brendan, Kylah and Raeanna; and five great-grandchildren.

A Memorial Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on November 20, 2021 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Shawn O'Neal officiating. Inurnment will follow at Blue Ridge Gardens of Memory in Pisgah Forest.
