Susan Klopp

Susan Graham Klopp died July 7, 2021. The daughter of Charles and Ethel Graham, she was born December 20, 1927 in Albany, Georgia.  In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her first husband, Robert “Buddy” Melton, her second husband Edward Klopp, and a brother, Robert Graham.

She loved gardening, sewing and knitting, crossword and Sudoku puzzles, chocolate and peanut butter. Travelling with family and friends was a great joy, but she always especially looked forward to travelling to see family. Taking after her mother, she relished going out for walks with a friend or by herself every day. Her gentleness, selflessness, and contented nature were her most outstanding attributes.

Music was everywhere in her life. She majored in music at Meredith College, taught piano at Brevard College and privately, accompanied instrumentalists and vocalists and various choral groups, played organ for several churches (worship services, weddings, and funerals), and sang in the United Methodist Church Choir for sixty years. She loved the Brevard Music Center and attended as many of the performances and student recitals as she could. Through all of this, she instilled a deep love of music in her children and grandchildren.

She is survived by her children Robert Melton (Terry), Leslie McClane (William) and Charles Melton (Suzanne); two brothers, Charles and William Graham; six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews, as well as many dear friends. In addition, she enjoyed the friendship and devotion of three stepchildren, Ellie Klopp, Betsy Bennett and Jonathan Klopp. She will be greatly missed.

The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at College Walk and especially Sam Fuller and his staff at Sam’s Home Care who gave her wonderful care and warm companionship for many months, including during the COVID shutdown at College Walk.

A memorial service will be held at 3:00 pm on Sunday, September 26, 2021 at the First United Methodist Church.

The family asks that no flowers be sent, but contributions can be made to the BMZ Organ Fund, c/o First United Methodist Church, 325 N.
