Sylvia Josephine "Jo" Roberts, 89, of Little River, passed away Monday, October 28, 2019. Her family mourns her loss but rejoices in the knowledge and comfort that she is now with her Lord and Savior.
A native of Transylvania County, she was born January 13, 1930, to the late Devereaux and Maggie Osteen Hamilton. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by two sisters, Azalea Patterson and Alma Holtzclaw; one brother, Malcolm Hamilton; and a daughter, Sharon Cavett.
During the course of her life, Jo cared for and raised three children, worked at Ball Brothers of Arden, NC and retired from working at DuPont after 20 years of working there. During that time, she developed friendships that she cherished throughout her life. She then spent much of her time with her family, caring for her mom and traveling with her sisters. Jo was an avid reader. She loved learning the history of the area and the families she had known through the years. She loved her Atlanta Braves, UNC Women’s Basketball and had a fondness for the Steelers. She was a familiar face at Pisgah Fish Camp where she would often see her friends and coworkers.
Survivors include her son, Duane Roberts and his wife, Deborah of Powdersville, SC; her son, Gary Roberts and his wife, Amie of Little River, NC; eight grandchildren, Scott Roberts(Mandy), BJ Hawkins(Bruce), April Adams(Nick), Blaise Roberts (Chesney), Cooper Roberts, Griffin Roberts, Aubrey Blumm and Ashlyn Blumm; four great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
First and foremost for Jo was a desire to make sure her family, friends and extended family were taken care of. She was very proud of her family, especially her grandchildren and all they have accomplished and achieved.
Jo was loved deeply by her family, her friends, and all who knew her. She has always been known as the lady who had all the history of the family and surrounding community stored in her memory. She could entertain everyone with stories from the past, sharing her love of people and places with those around her.
A celebration of life will be held on Friday, November 1st at 2pm, at Little River Baptist Church with the Rev. Marc Reynolds officiating. Interment will follow in the Little River Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
