Thomas Logan Hooper, Sr.
Brevard - Thomas Logan Hooper, Sr., 79, died peacefully on Thursday, September 30, 2010 at St. Joseph Hospital in Asheville surrounded by his loving family. He courageously fought a six month battle with cancer.
Thomas was born on March 30, 1931 in the Mills River community to the late Walter G. Hooper, Sr. and Eva Pace Hooper. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Walter G. "Buddy" Hooper, Jr. and a sister Ruth Hooper Bresnahan.
He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Katy Hooper; a daughter Marie (Tom) Baldridge of Raleigh; son, Thomas Logan Hooper, Jr (Jean) of Raleigh; three granddaughters, Elizabeth Baldridge, Ashley Hooper and Sarah Hooper.
Thomas and Katy made their home and raised their family on Lyons Mountain Road in the Rosman area. He farmed for many years raising prize winning cattle, corn and hay. He worked at Ecusta and retired from Olin after 44 years of service. He was a member of Mount Moriah Calvert Baptist Church where he faithfully served as a deacon and trustee. He was also a member of the Dunn's Rock Masonic Lodge #267, Brevard, NC , and he was a Shriner.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, October 4 , 2010, at Mount Moriah Calvert Baptist Church 2pm with Revs. Steve and Brenda Jones officiating. Burial will follow at Pisgah Gardens.
The family will receive friends at Moore Funeral Home on October 3 , 2010, from 6pm to 8 pm.
Memorial contributions may be made to Mount Moriah Calvert Baptist Church.
