Rev. Thomas E. Hughes, Jr.

Rev. Thomas Edward Hughes, Jr., of Brevard passed away after a courageous fight with cancer, on Wednesday, July 23, 2008 at 10:30 PM. Twenty-three family members and friends surrounded him, singing and reading scripture as he stepped over into glory. A graveside service was held on Friday, July 25, for the family.

There will be a CELEBRATION OF LIFE on August 10, at 2:00 PM at Brevard Community Church, Brevard, NC. All are welcome to attend.

Tom was born in Havre-de-Grace, MD, August 18, 1932 to Thomas Edward Hughes, Sr. and Mary Elsie Haines, who preceded him in death.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Ramona E. Hughes; four daughters, Mary E. Linville and husband John, V. Lynn McDonald and husband Greg, Margie Hughes Orr and husband Kevin, and Rebecca Ann Hughes, all of Brevard. Tom was the eldest of two brothers, Jimmy Hughes of Mobile, AL, and John Hughes of Charlotte, NC, and sister, Emily Hughes of Tennessee.

Tom and Ramona have 13 grandchildren: Beth, Heather, Nathanael, Caleb, Jennifer, Emily, Joshua, Jonlyn, Aaron, David, JT, Claire, and Korah. They have 7 ' great grandchildren: Jacob, Andrew, Garrett, Mia, Gabriel, Roman, Ellie, and a new great will arrive in November. He also had many nieces, nephews, and foster children whom he loved dearly.

Hughes served in the US Air Force and worked for NASA on Saturn V before entering Reformed Theological Seminary in Jackson, MS, graduating in 1971. This began a thirty-five year ministry in the Gospel of Jesus Christ. He retired in 2006 from Safe Harbor PCA in Destin, FL, and returned home to Brevard.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorials be sent to: JL Ministries, P.O. Box 1931, Brevard, NC 28712. Memorials will be used to build an OUTDOOR CHAPEL in honor of Tom's many years of sharing the Gospel of Christ with numerous people.
