Thomas Arthur St. John, Jr., 70, of Brevard, passed away Thursday, August 30, 2018, at Mission Hospital in Asheville. He was born March 13, 1948, in Camden, NJ, and was the son of the late Thomas Arthur St. John, Sr. and Elizabeth Mary St. John.
He graduated from St. Joseph's College, and received his doctorate of medicine from Jefferson Medical College, both in Philadelphia. He completed a pediatric residency at Philadelphia Naval Hospital, and later finished a fellowship at the Kennedy Krieger Institute of Johns Hopkins in Baltimore. He served 24 years in the United States Navy, and continued working as a developmental pediatrician after his military retirement.
He was passionate about his service to the community. He volunteered regularly at Sharing House (Transylvania Christian Ministry) and had served as director of the Free Clinic in Brevard. He was a fourth degree Knight of Columbus. Recently, he became a member of the Secular Franciscan Order.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Barbara Lorraine St. John, his son, Paul St. John and wife Sherilyn of Manassas, VA, his daughter, Kathleen Iudica and husband Christian of Harrisonburg, VA, and grandchildren, Kennedy, Victoria, Bethany and Ross. He is also survived by a sister, Eileen Larwa and husband Stephen, of Audubon Park, NJ.
Funeral mass will be held Saturday, September 22, 2018, at 11 am at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Brevard.
