Velma McCarson Talley, 77, of Brevard, NC passed away at The Oaks of Brevard on February 23, 2013.
She was born December 29, 1935 to the late Tillman and Stella McCarson of Hendersonville, NC. She was the widow of William R. Talley and is survived by her daughter, Lauren Talley-Smith and grandson, Rhett Pearce Smith of Raleigh, NC and her son, Steven Russell Talley of Morganton, NC, along with two brothers, T.D. McCarson and his wife Joyce of Albuquerque, NM and John McCarson of Hudson, NC. Her extended family also includes her sisters and brother in marriage, Barbara Whitaker and her husband Joe of Penrose, NC, Martha Nolan of Brevard, NC and Carrie Talley of Matthews, NC, along with numerous nieces and nephews and grand-nieces and nephews.
Velma retired from the Transylvania County School System after 20 years of service and spent much of her retirement at Holden Beach, NC.
She was a member of Glady Branch Baptist Church. She was well known for her volunteer services in many organizations and was best known for her assistance with the weddings of many Transylvania County brides.
There will be a Celebration of her Life at 3:00 PM, Saturday, March 9, 2013 at Brevard Elementary School Media Center, 601 Greenville Hwy, Brevard, NC.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Transylvania Regional Hospital Hospice, P.O. Box 2440, Brevard, NC 28712.
