Virginia Whitmire Hamilton



Brevard, NC - Virginia Whitmire Hamilton, 81, of Brevard, NC died Sunday, November 9, 2008 at The Oaks Health and Retirement Center.



She was a native of Jocassee Valley, Oconee County, SC, and had resided in Transylvania County for the past 62 years. She was preceded in death by her parents, Homer and Iris Lovinggood Whitmire, her husband, Lamar Hamilton, and her sister Sarah Jane Wooten.



Mrs. Hamilton was a member of the First Baptist Church of Brevard where she taught Sunday school in past years. She was also a member of Sylvan Valley Garden Club, worked in the Senior Citizens Program at Silvermont and was a volunteer with Transylvania Hospital Auxiliary. She was an employee of Olin Corporation. She also loved to travel.



She is survived by a son Larry Lamar Hamilton and wife Sandra of Brevard, two grandchildren, Sonya H. Norman and husband Chris, of Etowah, NC and Bryan Hamilton of Brevard, two great grandsons, Nathaniel and Joshua Norman, of Etowah, NC and one sister, Claudia Hembree of Taylors, SC, three brothers, Homer Whitmire Jr. and Thomas Whitmire both of Anderson, SC and Dan Whitmire of Pickens, SC





The funeral service will be held at Calvary Baptist Mission Church, Pisgah Forest, NC on Tuesday, November 11, 2008 at 2:00 PM with Rev. Leo Worley officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until 1:45 PM prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow at Little River Baptist Church Cemetery.
