Captain Wayne H. Traywick
Brevard - Captain Wayne H. Traywick, 96, died Friday, March 28, 2008, at Cedar Mountain House.
He was born in Union County, NC on March 29, 1911 to the late Luther and Dora Haigler Traywick. A son Colin Haigler Traywick and a sister Chloe Walkup preceded him in death.
Captain Traywick was a marine from 1930-1957, serving in Haiti and Participated in the organization of the Haitian Gendarme, left Haiti in 1934 with the last marine. He served in defense of the international, settlement in Shanghai, China during the Sino-Japanese incident 1936-1937: in Guadalcanal 1942-1943 during World War II and other Pacific Islands. He was also a veteran of the Korean Conflict. He won numerous medals while serving in the Marine Corps.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Richardson Traywick, two sons; Darryl Wayne Traywick and wife Susan of Denver CO, Neil Walter Traywick and wife Penny of Charlotte, NC and daughter; Anne Elizabeth Traywick of Brevard, NC; five grandchildren; E. Ashley Denhard, Ross Alan Bloom, Margo Anne Trawick, Kyle Randolph and John Haigler Traywick.
The family would like to extend their deep appreciation to the staff of College Walk, The Oaks of Brevard, Cedar Mountain House and Transylvania Community Hospital Hospice.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 5, 2008 at 5:00pm at Pretty Place Chapel, YMCA Camp Greenville (

) with Chaplain Art Slagle officiating. Immediately following the service, the family will receive friends at the home of Anne Traywick, 8394 Greenville Hwy, Brevard, NC.
