Wesley H. Young, 97, of Brevard, went to his Heavenly reward on June 1, 2023, after a period of declining health. A native of Jackson County, he had resided in Brevard for the past 70 years. He was the son of the late William and Georgia Young. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Mary Joyce Holden Young and also his five brothers and two sisters.
A United States Army Veteran, he served during World War II and the Korean Conflict. He was a true hero, having earned the Bronze Star among many other medals.
He was a man of strong faith: he was one of the founding members of the Brevard Community Church of the Nazarene. He was a man totally committed to God and to his family.
He loved music. fly-fishing and all things outdoors. He was employed by Ecusta / Olin, until the time of his retirement.
His survivors include his son, Alan Young and wife Teresa; daughters Marilyn Cook and Wanda Robinson; grandchildren Jodie Cook, Derek Cook, Michael Gaeta, Brandon Gaeta, Nathan Price, and Kyle Young; three great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews; and close friend, Kay Brown.
A Celebration of his life will be held at Brevard Community Church of the Nazarene, 290 Old Hendersonville Hwy., Brevard, at 4:00 pm on Saturday, June 10, 2023. The family will receive friends from 3pm – 4pm, one hour prior to the service.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the church he loved and served for 61 years, Brevard Community Church of the Nazarene.
