William Leineweber

William Frederick "Bill" Leineweber, Jr., died in Brevard, NC, on Friday, November 14.

The son of Mr. and Mrs. William Frederick Leineweber, he grew up in Baltimore, MD, and

was a graduate of Baltimore Polytechnic Institute and Purdue University. He also

attended Graduate School at NYU.

Mr. Leineweber was a Naval Aviator and Instructor Pilot during WWII and moved to

Greenville after the war to work for W.D. Dodenhoff Co. As an engineer, he worked to

improve the textile machinery for which he was responsible and held several patents as a

result of his work. He became General Manager of James Hunter Machine

Co., and retained the same position when the business was purchased by Crompton and

Knowles. He was very active in many of Greenville's civic and non-profit organizations,

and was a member of St. Michael's Lutheran Church. He was also a past member of

Greenville Country Club and The Poinsett Club.

Mr. Leineweber is survived by his wife, Suzanne Goodman Leineweber. He is also

survived by a daughter, Ann Leineweber Heard of Greenville SC; a son, Robert

McCreery Leineweber and his wife Sarah, also of Greenville; and a stepdaughter, Sarah

Chisholm Cressman and her husband Rob of Indianapolis IN. Mr. Leineweber is

survived by five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He was pre-deceased by

his first wife, Elizabeth "Betty" McCreery Leineweber; a son, William Frederick

Leineweber III; a granddaughter, Elizabeth Winchester Heard; and a stepson, Peter

Chisholm.
