William Uhle, age 76, passed away Friday, April 18, 2008 at his home in Cedar Mtn., NC.
He was born Aug. 6, 1931 and raised in Miami, FL by his parents Reonette and Albert C. Uhle, Jr. His incentive to enter the business management world was fostered by being an independent carrier for the Miami Herald during his high school and college years. He graduated from the University of Miami where he received his Bachelors degree in Business Administration. From 1952 to 1954, he served in the armed forces during the Korean War. After active service, he joined the Miami Post Publishing Co., a large commercial and lithographic firm, for 14 years where he served as plant superintendent and executive vice president. In 1967, he joined The Franklin Press where he was sales manager and executive vice president for 15 years. While still working for these firms, he purchased Mills Publication, Barkin Envelope Co., and Zip Mailer, Inc. He was active in the Miami community: Serving 9 years as Cub Scout Master, 15 years on the printing advisory craft committee for the Miami-Dade County School System, and as President of the Greater Miami Printing Industry. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church until moving his membership to Christ the King Lutheran Church in Pinecrest, FL where he served as a Sunday School Superintendent and a member of the church council. He was a life long Kiwanian of 43 years and served as President of the Kiwanis Club of Miami and as Secretary/Treasurer of the Kiwanis Club of Brevard, NC.
Upon retiring in 1982, he traveled extensively in the U.S. and then moved to Cedar Mountain, NC in 1984. Unable to stay out of the business world, he purchased two storage businesses, took an active part in the Cedar Mountain Community Center and their Homeowner's Association, and was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Hendersonville, NC. He loved to hunt, fish and play golf, but also painted landscapes and enjoyed making furniture for his grandchildren in his workshop in Cedar Mountain.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Dotty; his four children, Barbara Sanchez, William Uhle Jr., Robert Uhle, and Richard Uhle; and thirteen grandchildren, Rick, Ray, and Ryan Sanchez, Matt and Robin Uhle, Katie, Michael, Joey and Chris Uhle, and Nick, Brandon, Ryan, and Kristin Uhle; and his only brother, A. Christian Uhle, III.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in his name to the American Cancer Society, The Transylvania County Library in Brevard, NC, or to your favorite charity.
A Memorial Service will be held at Moore Funeral Home, Brevard N.C., on Saturday, April 26, 2008 at 1PM. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the funeral home.
