Zelma Hogsed

August 1, 1930 — October 22, 2019

Dunn's Rock

Zelma Mae Willingham Hogsed, 89, of Dunn’s Rock, went to be with Jesus on Tuesday, October 22, 2019. What a joyful heavenly reunion it was for her and her loved ones who had gone before her.

Zelma was born on August 1, 1930 to the late Emory S. and Pearl Lee Loveless Willingham in Anniston, Alabama. She attended Alexandria High School where she played basketball. She married Fred Playto Hogsed on July 3, 1947 and raised four children.

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Fred, their son, Donny; brothers Roy and Wallace Willingham; sisters Louise Thompson, Vadie Bratcher, Flossie Raxter and Velma Finch.

She is survived by her son: David Hogsed (Linda); daughters Cathy Harris and Cindy Kiser (Bill). Also surviving are six grandchildren: Aaron Hogsed (Ericka), Cain Hogsed (Mary), Heather Hogsed, Andy Harris, Lauren Harris and Katie Kiser.

Our mama’s favorite saying was, “I’m just trying to do good”, and good she was at putting others before herself, in prayer and concern. She put her family’s needs above her own and that made her the happiest. She loved to cook holiday dinners with Daddy for us and just being with us. She worked at having an orderly home whether it was tidiness or us kids who needed that reminder of “Just wait till your daddy gets home!” She worked for Gwynn Valley Camp during summertime so we could attend camp. In her earlier years, she was very active at Dunn’s Rock Baptist Church and later at Cedar Mountain Baptist Church, where she was a member. She missed going to church when she was unable.

The family would like to thank Dunn’s Rock Baptist Church and Cedar Mountain Baptist Church for the flowers, phone calls, cards and mostly, your prayers during her illness. Also we would like to thank a special niece, Willene Bryson and her husband, Dick, and a special sister-in-law, Betty Sanford, who called her often to check on her; Denise and Dr. Tim Shea, Hospice personnel and two exceptional nurses, Brittany and Constance.

Funeral services for Zelma Hogsed will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, October 26, 2019 in the chapel of Moore-Blanchard Funerals & Cremations with Rev. Willie Walters and Rev. Dean West officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00-11:00 a.m., one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Connestee Cemetery.

1 Corinthians 2:9 “But as it is written, What no eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor heart of man imagined, what God has prepared for those who love Him.”

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Cedar Mountain Baptist Church, 7765 Greenville Highway, Cedar Mountain, NC 28712.
